Gasoline prices were running north of $4 per gallon last summer when Juan Borrego’s family started looking for a new car, so fuel efficiency was high on the priority list.
The 17-year-old Northbrook High School junior was hoping for a Toyota Prius, the popular gasoline/electric hybrid that gets up to 45 miles per gallon.
“But we had a really hard time finding one,” Borrego said, since many Prius’ are sold before they even arrive at the dealership.
Then the family heard about the Zenn, an all-electric version of a two-person hatchback that cruises the highways of Europe as a gasoline fueled car.
