TRICKED by "GREEN MARKETING" ??, find CARBON GAS STATISTICS

In today's environment, all the car companies are marketing "green" cars. There has never been so much untruth in advertising as there is today re "green" this and "green" that. Most people would agree that the adjective "green" for a car is supposed to mean it doesn't pollute, or doesn't pollute very much, and doesn't add to the carbon gas content of the atmosphere (greenhouse gas). We could rant and rant about how blatantly false are the "green" claims for most car models, but instead, we simply urge every person on the planet to look up the statistics of any car model you own, or consider owning, so that you know the facts. Fortunately, vehicle carbon gas emission statistics are easy to access, there are multiple government websites with officially tested data, one of these is:

This website allows the viewer to see the carbon gas emissions on a standardized basis. The standard measurement is, each vehicle is assumed to be driven 15,000 miles in a year, for which its resulting carbon gas emissions is given. It allows adjustment of miles, or city/highway %'s, so that you can further see how much new carbon gas you are actually creating with any of the common vehicle models.

For an overall summary, you will see the typical new cars' carbon gas emissions are:

SUVs 9 to 12 tons of carbon gas per year, per car, driving 15,000 miles

Typical cars 6 to 10 tons annual carbon gas emissions

Hybrids 4 to 10 tons annual carbon gas emissions

Electric cars 0 emissions of any kind.

Older models are also listed, they are generally slightly higher than the above numbers, except the diesel models which are actually getting higher/ dirtier (see fueleconomy.gov for VW Jetta in 2010 vs same car 1996, same thing for any made over these years).

So when you read about how great a car is, because it is "green", we hope you will demand to know how much carbon gas it makes. You will quickly realize that they are mostly highly misleading claims, with one exception, the one class of car which is actually green, the only green car, the zero emission all-electric car.

Carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide are not the only offending emissions, there are others such as nitrous oxide and sulfur (highest in diesel technology, and they are improving these) but the carbon gases are known to be the chief causes of air of global warming, and carbon monoxide is chief visual air pollutant. We urge you to be an educated consumer.

Many people do not care at all about global warming or air pollution unfortunately. Many others do care, or say they care, but are not willing to do any actions, or spend any personal money, to act or live in a cleaner way. But some people, a small portion of our society, are willing to actually try to live cleaner, actually willing to make an effort, and even to spend their own money, to live cleaner, make a "smaller carbon footprint" in efforts not to harm future humans or pollute our planet. Will you be one of these "green" minded people? You have taken a good step, studying electric cars and this website. We hope you'll continue on the green path.

An added note, the generation of electricity needed to charge the car may be done with carbon gas as a by-product, depending on what type of fuel is used by the electric plant-- but even in Texas, the nation's largest carbon gas creator, if the entire 6.2 kwh for the full NEV e-car charge is from the average Texas electric plant (created 1.3 lbs of emissions per kwh per the EPA),  the 8 lbs of emissions in a full 35 mile charge range would create 1.7 tons of carbon emissions in a standard year, vs 4.0 tons for the cleanest existing hybrid,  the cleanest hybrid, or 8 tons by the average sedan, or 10 to 12 tons by an SUV or large pickup truck.  Stated in reverse, gas powered cars create at least 3 to 7 times as much carbon gas per mile as any e-car, even if stated in the way most advantageous to the gas cars stats !!  And for those Texans who actually care about the environment enough to get their electricity from wind or solar power, the " indirect carbon" fraction is zero.
