Cars and trucks generally burn gasoline or diesel fuel. This produces tailpipe emissions into the air, which is 100% pollution, mainly carbon gases. The biggest, most prevalent carbon gas (CO2) is a clear noxious gas which is well studied, much known about, and in large quantities, harmful to our societal life on the planet. Some people still do not believe in the phenomenon called "global warming", these people are called "skeptics" to use a nice word, ostriches with head-in-sand to use analogy, or "part of the problem" to speak more directly. The readers of this website are naturally intelligent people, or they would not even bother, therefore we offer the links below which contain illuminating information on carbon gases from vehicles. In general, cars emit their own weight in carbon gases every 6 weeks for the dirtier ones, to every 4 months for the cleanest "hybrid." The hybrid car seems to be a very good advance from the plain old car, because it uses only half the gas generally, however, even the cleanest hybrid car (according to www.fueleconomy.gov) still puts out over 4 tons of carbon gas per year in their standard measure 15,000 mile year. As the car weighs around a ton and a half, this means it creates its own weight in carbon gas around three times each year. Thus the hybrid is economic, but not "green" in any real sense. We urge people to learn more about carbon gas from cars, to check the carbon statistics of your own car on www.fueleconomy.gov, and whenever you go to look at cars with the possibility of buying, ask the dealer "how much carbon gas does this model make?" and if they won't tell you, it is a good sign he is a lying son of a gun !! Even if he is not lying, because he really has no idea, then he is an ignorant son of a gun ! We urge all consumers including individuals and business / government buyers, to be knowledgeable educated consumers in this vital area, and only buy from knowledgeable outlets. The 2 reasons are: 1) global warming is horrible, will eventually see the coastal cities underwater in our children's / grandchildren's lifetimes, we must change to survive---and 2) carbon gas is poisonous, if no huge societal change is undergone, the entire human race and all mammals will die out within 100 years not because of global warming, but because they will be poisoned by long term carbon gas ingestion. A note on "clean diesel"--- the reader is asked to look up the statistics of any 2009 clean diesel vehicle in www.fueleconomy.org because we do not want a bunch of angry people complaining that we misrepresented how disappointing is "clean diesel", or how unjustified is a tax credit on vehicles using this dirty technology. For example, compare the VW Jetta of 1996 to same car 2010-- it got dirtier !! According to the US government testing offices, the clean diesel vehicles are still quite heavily polluting. .....TO STOP POLLUTING. DRIVE AN ELECTRIC CAR all you can.

It is small because it is very dense material. Next, visualize a ton of feather pillows—much less dense, if you filled 3 large houses with nothing but feather pillows, then weighed the pillows, they'd weigh around a ton. Now visualize your favorite large sports stadium, say the Reliant Stadium, but with solid airtight walls, filled with nothing but carbon dioxide gas ! This is how big a ton of a gaseous substance is at sea level. If a person would walk into this hypothetical gassy stadium, he or she would die within 3 to 4 minutes. And each car on the road creates this stadium-filling amount of carbon gas every 1 to 3 months ! The earth is big, the atmosphere is huge, but the rate of increase in carbon gas created by humans has seen the carbon content of the atmosphere increase by over 1/3 in 100 years (recently measured at 0.38% of the air), and the charted curve of increasing emissions will easily see it rise another third in 30 to 40 more years (to over 0.50%). Before that point, coastal cities will begin to be underwater, unable to continue life, and also at that point, much of the population will begin to be sickened by long term carbon ingestion. There is only one general way to stop polluting, and this is to stop polluting. Pollution from Electrical Generation- Occasionally you hear somebody suggest that driving an electric car doesn't help the carbon gas problem, because the electric power generation by the utility provider is just as bad as carbon from gas cars. This suggestion is actually far from the truth--- the carbon gas created by the current mix of Texas power plants (1.3 lbs per KWH) is factored down to a "carbon gas per mile" and common sized to a car, the electric car still wins by a factor of 2.5x (vs cleanest hybrid) to 7 times (vs SUV). In other words, considering even a dirty mix from power plants such as Texas has, the carbon per mile by the cleanest hybrid car is 2.5 times as much as the electric car, and the dirtier end cars (such as Hummers, SUVs, large pickups, the "clean diesel" Mercedes etc ) create 7 times as much carbon per mile as the dirty utilities do powering your electric car, per mile. And it is easy for Texans to have electricity produced from non-emitting technologies, such as wind, solar, etc. Our society still needs petroleum for much, and will need it for a very long time, but where it is not needed, we should immediately try to avoid burning it. You are not hurting the oil business if you drive an electric car, we import 70 % of our crude oil needs today from other countries. Other unpleasant carbon facts- As of early 2009, the following remains true: 1) US state producing most carbon gas into atmosphere- 2) Largest City in 3) Largest city in the 4) Most adult American people only drive 25 miles per day or less.
